Collage Quilt: Rooster -

Have you seen these gorgeous art quilts at shows or in magazines and wondered how they were made? Now is your chance to learn how! Do you think it looks too complicated? It's not! No sewing skills are required to make this art quilt.

This technique is a combination of
raw-edge applique and quilting. You will use small, colorful pieces of a wide variety of fabrics and layer them in an artsy way.

The project for the class is a pattern from Petit Rouge Rooster - Raphael, by Emily Taylor, which can be purchased at
collagequilter.com. Finished size is 16” x 15". A smaller sized project is recommended for people doing collage quilting for the first time.

Instructor: Barbara Bailey
Instructor Bio: I started sewing when I was very young and had always enjoyed it as a hobby, primarily focused on garment construction. For a long time, I was fine with that. But after working many years in the medical field, I decided I needed a change so I headed back to collage. I graduated from LSU with a B.A. in Theatre and continued on to obtain a M.A. in Theatre/Design from the University of Arkansas. I have worked professionally as Costume Shop Manager at various colleges including the University of Houston, University of Iowa, University of Arkansas, and Texas A & M University. After retiring from the academic world, I continued to work in the sewing and craft world. I began teaching several years ago and really enjoy it. The interaction with students is always so positive and informative. I learn from my students and I hope they learn from me.
