Quilt: Almost Alone Star Quilt
Don’t you just love a quilt that looks REALLY complicated but only you know it wasn’t hard to make? The Almost Alone Star quilt is that kind of quilt. This pattern is made up of three different blocks and utilizes Jelly Rolls and the Strip Tube Ruler. While it is reminiscent of a Lone Star project, it’s not nearly as difficult. It uses the tube technique, has no Y-seams, and is perfect for 2 ½” strips!
If you would like to learn how this quilt comes together and/or how to make a two-colored Almost Alone Star quilt, join us as we piece together YOUR beautiful and complex-looking, yet simple, quilt.
The pattern will be supplied for you.

Homework Bring Completed to Class
Completing your homework is critical if you plan on finishing your quilt in one day.
If you are using a Jelly Roll:
1. Choose 30 strips from your jelly roll to use in your quilt. Be sure that there is plenty of
contrast to your background fabric.
2. Sew two print strips together to make a strip set measuring 4 ½” wide. Press the seams
all in one direction. Make 15 sets.
3. Place two strip sets right sides together so the seams nest. Sew a ¼” seam up one long
side and down the other to make a tube. Make 4 tubes.
4. Cut 7 strips measuring 4 ½” from the Background Fabric.
5. Using the same technique as in #3 above, but using one strip set and one 4 ½”
background strip to make a tube. Make 7 tubes.
6. Cut 8 strips measuring 5 ½” from the Background Fabric. Sub-cut these into 56 – 5 ½”
squares.

Instructor: | Candis Kennard |
Instructor Bio: | Candis (Candy) Kennard is a born and bred Texan. She recently moved from Alabama to her new home between Anderson and Richards, TX. She began her quilting career about 12 years ago. It is a convoluted story that she is willing to share if you ask her….lol. Prior to getting into the quilting business, Candy taught sciences in secondary schools and worked for government contractors as a subcontract manager. Since she loved to teach, it is no wonder that she was a successful teacher in Northern Alabama where she lived. She is working to ensure that this success will continue here in Texas. In addition to teaching quilting, Candy has developed some of her own patterns. She has sold various quilts and makes a quilt each year to sell at her family reunion auction. Last year, and for several more years to come, her reunion quilts are being constructed from blocks her grandmother made. |
