Game Day Poncho!
The quilted game day poncho is a versatile and stylish accessory designed for comfort and functionality during outdoor events. Using quilted fabrics, it is a quick and easy pattern. When worn, it functions as a protective poncho, shielding you from the elements while keeping you warm making it perfect for the chilly night games. Very versatile, the poncho can be spread out flat and used as a blanket, providing a comfortable and insulated surface to sit or lie on or it can be folded up to create a quilted cushioned surface to sit on, making it ideal for bleacher seats, the ground, or other hard surfaces.
Despite its quilted design, the poncho is lightweight and can be easily folded into a nice size for convenient carrying. The poncho includes a hood and side snaps on the body of the poncho for easy wear and removal. Additionally, a spacious front pocket is perfect for storing essentials such as your phone, wallet, snacks, or small gear. The pocket is conveniently located for easy access.
Learn how to make a game day poncho with finished seams and bound edges. Knowledge of garment construction is not necessary. Dimensions for Adult, Pre-Teen, and Toddler ponchos will be supplied. Techniques involved include straight seams, serged, over-locked, or zigzag seams, pockets, and applying binding.
Please read the supply list carefully!
Class supplies as listed and you MUST be prepared before class. Without them, you won't be able to make your poncho.
- Using your favorite teams fabrics, you must have at least 2 1/2” yards, quilted prior to class. Also, vintage or modern quilts should be washed and dried prior to class. If using fabric or a pieced quilt top, they MUST be quilted prior to class.
- You will need 2 ¼” to 2 ½” binding to be placed around the body, pocket, and hood of your poncho. This can be solid, printed, or scrappy and does not require to be cut on a bias; however, if cut on the bias it will be slightly stretchy. Purchased bias tape is not suitable for this project and you will need at a minimum 250” (7 - 8 strips WOF) of prepared 2 1/2" binding prior to class.

Instructor Bio: | Lifelong Learner, Instructor, and founder of Lola and Viv Designs, a fusion of creativity and sustainability I am an avid sewist with a penchant for upcycling and reusing. I like to keep busy, so I sew (a lot), piece, longarm quilt, and design. An Independent Maker, I work and design in a chaotic creative space I call my home studio. I love vintage and modern textiles, especially vintage quilts, and upcycle them into one-of-a-kind, wearable art. I became very prolific with finding, designing, and making jackets and bags. So much so that my friends and family started buying them. Long story short, Lola and Viv Designs was born. I love to teach and share my knowledge and passion with others. I have taught in academic and professional settings my entire adult life, and I also teach bag-making, quilting, and sewing classes. I love all fabrics and textiles and have turned my passion into a creative business. The fusion of vintage and modern textiles and my commitment to upcycling add a unique touch to my creations, making them not just products but carriers of history and emotion. I am dedicated to preserving and repurposing old quilt tops, quilts, and textiles in every aspect of my work. I am increasingly inspired by ways to use different fabrics, upcycling, and searching high and low in antique and secondhand shops for old quilt tops, quilts, and textiles. I am dedicated to preserving and repurposing old textiles, adding a special touch to my creations that honor the history behind each piece. I believe that every quilt has a story, and I am just narrating that tale. |
