Picture Piecing Design Class with Cynthia England
Learning how to create realistic pieced pictures
The intention for this workshop is to make you feel comfortable designing your own project
using the Picture Piecing technique. Come to have fun! It’s not as hard as it looks. I have never
had any student run screaming from my class!
In this workshop we will explore techniques of breaking up a design for machine construction.
Color selection and shadow placement will be addressed.
I will provide a design packet of drawings for you to practice sectioning on. They will start out
simple and gradually become more difficult. Do not be at all apprehensive, I have lots of helpful
pointers.
MATERIAL FEE .... $15 payable in class....cash preferred
YOUR HOMEWORK.... Should you choose to do it (If you take the class on 1/30/25 you'll be fine)
You don’t really HAVE to do this, but you will get more out of the class if you do.
I have found that it is helpful to have sewn using the technique before learning the sectioning
process. In class I will be doing a sewing demo to show you how it works.
IF YOU CAN....I have two free patterns online; an ice cream cone and a train engine. They are
simple 6” blocks. If you are able to sew one of these beforehand, the sectioning process will be
easier for you.

| Instructor Bio: | Cynthia England is a native Texan and graduate of the Art Institute of Houston and has been creating quilts for more than fifty years. Experimentation with quilting techniques led her to develop her own unique style and technique called, “Picture Piecing”. Cynthia’s quilts have been honored with many awards, including three Best of Shows at the prestigious International Quilt Association, as well as Viewer’s Choice at the American Quilter’s Society. Her quilt, Piece and Quiet was distinguished as one of the Hundred Best Quilts of the 20th Century. Cynthia teaches and lectures nationally and internationally. To date, she has shared her techniques at quilting events in South Africa, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Germany, Canada, Australia, Spain and Mexico. She is the designer and owner of England Design Studios which is a publishing/pattern company which specializes in the “Picture Piecing” technique.
